2010 VIRGINIA EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SYMPOSIUM
“Heads Up! Changes in Emergency Management”
March 31 - April 2, 2010
Hampton, VA
HAMPTON ROADS CONVENTION CENTER
Sponsored by:
The Virginia Emergency Management Association
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management
The Virginia Emergency Management Symposium’s theme is one to which we can all relate. Who hasn’t been given a “heads up” at some point in their career? This year’s event is designed for anyone whose professional commitment causes them to keep their head up by seeking a greater understanding of emergencies, both natural and man-made. The 2010 Symposium offers opportunities to learn from a variety of experts in public safety and emergency management as well as new leaders by recalling the November Nor’easter and the crash of the Metro. This year’s Symposium will begin on Wednesday, March 31 with our keynote speaker David Bissonette, the Emergency Management Coordinator for Erie County (Buffalo), New York, speaking on the crash of Continental Collection Flight #3407, and will conclude on Friday, April 2. The Hampton Roads Convention Center has proven to be an exciting venue, and this year it will allow for more exhibitors, breakout sessions, and in-depth training in topics such as weather, legal considerations, and the application of several technical tools. As with its predecessor, the Virginia Emergency Management Conference (VEMC), the Symposium is a joint partnership between the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) and the Virginia Emergency Management Association (VEMA).
